At Initiatives for Progressive Change (IfPC), our ongoing projects are driven by the goal of creating transformative, sustainable, and community-led solutions to the pressing challenges in ASAL regions. These projects empower communities, address climate change, promote peace, and advance reproductive health and governance. Below is a detailed overview of our ongoing initiatives:
1. Mazingira Bora Kwa Chakula Bora Nyumbani Project
This project addresses climate change and food insecurity through innovative, community-based approaches. The primary goals include:
- Promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture: Training communities on sustainable farming techniques that improve food security while adapting to changing climatic conditions.
- Tree Planting Campaigns: Increasing vegetative cover to combat desertification and mitigate climate change effects.
- Household Nutritional Support: Educating families on nutritional practices that address dietary deficiencies and promote better health.
By integrating climate adaptation and mitigation strategies, this project builds community resilience against climate emergencies while fostering sustainable development.
2. #SautiYaJamiiProject
This initiative builds on the successes of the #SautiYaVijanaProject and focuses on amplifying community voices to enhance social accountability. Key objectives include:
- Strengthening Youth Assemblies: Supporting the ongoing development of platforms like the Saku Youth Assembly (SYA), Moyale Youth Assembly (MYA), and Marsabit Youth Parliament (MYP).
- Community Dialogue: Facilitating conversations between youth and duty bearers to address governance and service delivery challenges.
- Capacity Building: Equipping youth with the knowledge and skills to advocate for their rights and participate in decision-making processes.
Through this project, IfPC aims to empower youth and communities to hold leaders accountable and contribute to a transparent, inclusive governance system.
3. Jirime Peace Accord Project
Peacebuilding remains a cornerstone of IfPC’s work, and this project continues to foster harmony and social cohesion among conflict-prone communities. Key activities include:

- Conflict Resolution Mechanisms: Developing sustainable strategies to address disputes and prevent future conflicts.
- Promoting Shared Goals: Encouraging communities to focus on collective development and prosperity as a means to sustain peace.
This initiative is a beacon of hope for communities affected by conflict, fostering mutual understanding and long-term harmony.
4. Reproductive Health Outreach Project (R-HOP)
The R-HOP initiative focuses on improving reproductive health outcomes in underserved communities. Key components include:
- Awareness Campaigns: Educating communities about sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), including the dangers of harmful practices like FGM and early marriages.
- Service Uptake Promotion: Enhancing access to reproductive health services and commodities, including menstrual hygiene and HIV/AIDS prevention.
- Community Conversations: Engaging stakeholders, including youth and women, to advocate for improved health services and policies.
By addressing critical gaps in reproductive health, R-HOP contributes to healthier, more empowered communities.
5. Establishing Moyale Youth Assembly (MYA) and Marsabit Youth Parliament (MYP)
Building on the success of the Saku Youth Assembly (SYA), IfPC is working to expand youth representation and engagement in governance. Objectives include:
- Platform Development: Creating spaces for youth in Moyale and Marsabit to discuss issues, propose solutions, and interact with leaders.
- Leadership Training: Nurturing young leaders through workshops, mentorship programs, and exposure to governance structures.
- Policy Advocacy: Encouraging youth to influence policies that affect their lives and communities.
These assemblies are envisioned as vital tools for fostering inclusive governance and preparing the next generation of leaders.
